The Rolling Stones – Gimme Shelter

The Rolling Stones – Gimme Shelter

One day, when we were young we got smashed and went to the Trak Cinema to watch what was billed as the great Pink Floyd movie.

It was shit, but after Pink Floyd they played some Stones footage, and Love’s in Vain came on.

Blues, marijuana and youth.  Sublime.

I would have barely even known who Robert Johnson was, but I think the experience was what prompted the purchase of Gimme Shelter.

I don’t remember buying the record.  I was probably smashed – it was the seventies after all.

The record became and remains a firm favourite, and I never tire of hearing the title song.

My current CD is the Dutch Edition, with a little poster, and just arrived from Amazon today in an envelope postmarked in Poland.

The rolling stones recently donated the use of this song to the Gimme Shelter campaign with the UNHCR and Ben Affleck. If your interested watch this video its pretty interesting and shocking.

Thanks amyolson. Any of us could end up as refugees – nothing is certain – even if you are lucky enough to have a computer. Climate change could make it happen to 5 billion people in your lifetime.
