50 Hertz.
The rhythm of my life is 50 Hertz.
The computer chatters at 50 Hz, the modem squeals softly at 50 Hz.
The TV and the monitors sparkle at 50 Hz, the speakers moan at 50 Hz.
The washing machine chugs at 50 Hz, the fridge simpers at 50 Hz.
The lights flicker and mutter at 50 Hz, the amps little drone is 50 Hz.
The transformer on the power pole buzzes at 50 Hz while the street lights keep time.
The rhythm of my electrified life is a constant 50 Hz,
and the natural world has the silence.

Functionalist definition of religion.

I have just happened upon this point of view.

“If materialism is all there is then the current state of our brain chemistry is simply the result of the prior state of our brain chemistry. Your ‘choices’ are not real choices, they’re just chemical reactions within your brain that you have no control over.”

Hmmmmm. There is always plenty to think about.

From the Book of Samuel:

Saul replied, “Say to David, ‘The king wants no other price for the bride than a hundred Philistine foreskins, to take revenge on his enemies.’” Saul’s plan was to have David fall by the hands of the Philistines.

When the attendants told David these things, he was pleased to become the king’s son-in-law. So before the allotted time elapsed, David took his men with him and went out and killed two hundred Philistines and brought back their foreskins. They counted out the full number to the king so that David might become the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave him his daughter Michal in marriage.

Hatred, scheming, revenge, mass murder, posthumous circumcision, the Bride’s price. There is just so much to like about this incident. I think of this passage whenever fanatics are talking about the Bible as the basis of their faith! The mental picture of David counting out the bag full of bloodied foreskins in front of King Saul is a real treat.

My grandfather fought in France
He was wounded,

His name’s on a plaque
beneath a tree in the Avenue
of Honour near Wendouree,
(my Soldier).

His brother,
my great uncle
fought alongside
him and died,
(my soldier):
He was buried in France.

My Grandfather left behind
his mother and two sisters
(my soldier).
The awful Spanish flu
killed his mother,
and one sister,
before he ever got home.
